Strensall & Huntington WI members make over 70 dolls

Last year Strensall and Huntington WI were donated some fabric from WI House, we also had some wool left from knitting bunting, creating post box toppers, and knitting red roses for the Women’s World Cup last summer. So, we started cutting, sewing, crocheting, and knitting, depending upon our members skills and abilities and we aimed to make 70 dolls (to match our 70 members) but in the end almost 100 dolls have been made.

They are all dressed, including knickers and shoes, some certainly have some crazy hairstyles and they are all different, just like our members! All the dolls have all been given names and an idea about what they might enjoy playing.

The dolls are going to be hidden around Strensall and Huntington, near to the schools, nurseries, libraries, parks, churches, doctors etc. waiting to be found, in early June. Each doll is in a waterproof bag with a label asking for the doll to be loved when found or passed onto someone who will love the gift of a little doll.

The idea is to encourage imaginary play and storytelling with young children, whilst also promoting the WI and preventing unwanted fabrics from going to land fill. The label also explains that all the dolls have been made by members of Strensall and Huntington WI and if they come to our WI stall at Strensall Carnival on June 13th and tell us about their dolls adventure they will receive a small prize, maybe some of the mums/ carers  may even be interested in joining the WI.  Win win win🤞
