AUTUMN MEETING, SATURDAY 31ST OCTOBER 2026, 10.30AM – 3.30PM, ARCHBISHOP HOLGATE’S SCHOOL, HULL ROAD, YORK YO10 5ZA
We will be welcoming Valerie Welti as our morning guest speaker. Her talk entitled “‘Canary Girls’ The Forgotten Heroines of Two World Wars,” the women who worked in the 200 hundred or so munitions factories across Britain during both wars. Their sacrifice was no less than many other wartime workers. Many of them paid the ultimate price. They died, they suffered long-term health issues and were maimed and scarred from the work they did.
Our afternoon speaker will be Lucy Allen, an artiste performing numerous stunts for film and TV in popular favourites such as Casualty and EastEnders, as well as Oscar-winning films – Titanic and Braveheart. She doubled Helena Bonham-Carter as Bellatrix in the Harry Potter films. Lucy will talk about the thrills and spills of being a Stunt Performer. She will explain her own backstory and how she got into this exciting profession, a profession that sometimes requires you to put your life on the line! She will talk about “Highs” and “Lows” of her chosen profession, which she has been doing for over thirty years now, and will share her experiences both scary and hilarious at times, doing the job she loves.
Coffee and tea are available on the day. Please bring a packed lunch. There will also be several stalls on the day for you to browse around. So, what are you waiting for? Send your application for a ticket.
