Enjoy a day out in Halifax before the Christmas rush – Thursday 5th December. Open to family and friends.
The coach will pick you up from Thirsk or York and our first stop will be the Bankfield Museum, Halifax, where you can enjoy a world-class collection of costumes, art, textiles, etc. The special exhibition on show will be the Art of Making Historical Fashion. Costumes on display include those made for TV programmes such as Gentleman Jack and the famous white shirt worn by Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, (Sorry, no Colin Firth)! There is a small café to purchase coffee/tea and biscuits.
We will then move on to Piece Hall, a Grade I listed building. It was built as a cloth hall for handloom weavers to sell the woollen cloth “pieces” they had produced – it has numerous uses now: shops, restaurants, etc., and the architecture alone is worth a visit. Should you wish to explore further, Halifax Borough Market – very traditional – is close by.
