Wednesday 1 May dawned bright and clear – thank goodness after all the rain in the previous days and weeks. 24 ladies gathered to ramble through Hagg Woods to admire the bluebells. They were in full flower and we were able to take lots of lovely photos, but we had to watch where we put our feet as there was still a lot of standing water and mud!

We then walked on round the footpaths and roads to Hassacar Nature Reserve, with its beautiful pond and wildlife, and finished at Julia’s Garden which is a very tranquil spot.

We gathered our breath there for the last stretch back to the Reading Rooms where a sumptuous lunch awaited us. All the usual quality fare we have come to expect from our WI ladies, who provide tea and cake or full afternoon tea monthly in the Reading Rooms. All welcome! We had a great walk and are pleased to have been able to showcase our lovely countryside so close to York.
